About Us

My photo
Concrete, Washington, United States
We live in a little community that is about 30 miles "up river" from Burlington, WA called Concrete. Our home is called' "Our Haven at the River's Edge" as this is our idea of heaven sitting on the Skagit River with elk in the front yard and salmon in the backyard.

This April's Notes from Concrete

Finally the trees are in full bud and the wild dogwoods are in bloom. The tulip festival runs from April 1st to April 30th, but it wasn't till last week that all the variety's came to bloom. It has been a slow start to spring this year, but now it is here at last.

This past weekend we went to a program run by the National MS Society. It was a seminar for couples dealing with MS. It was held at a former corporate retreat center of Washington Mutual bank just south of Seattle and included two nights and all our meals.

For those of you whom didn't know, I became a victim of the economy at the end of January when I was laid off. It has been slow going finding work and I expect it to take a lot longer. Right now my best hope seems to be with the federal government and along those lines I will be having an interview during the next couple of weeks with the Navy.

The position is on the other side of Puget Sound so if I get it, I’ll only be coming home to Concrete on weekends. We went over there on Wednesday to check out the area. It is on the Kitsap Naval Base which is also the Banger Nuclear Sub Base in Silverdale, WA. Got to see the USS Kitty Hawk the great aircraft carrier from the Vietnam days at Bremerton. She was finally taken out of service this past January, but hasn’t been decommissioned.

A great part of living up here is taking the ferries. It adds another trip to your trip so to speak and it is always great to be out on the open water. We took the Edmonds to Kingston Ferry on our way over and stopped and had lunch at a creprie I took Bonnie to last year for her birthday. Coming back we took the Bremerton to Seattle Ferry.

Received alot of great clips from Jean this month, just wish I knew how to share them. Also, we got a great surprise today when Barbara called us from Australia letting us know that winter was there and they were heading to the north end of the country till mid August. Sort of like snow birds over here.

That pretty well covers it for this month. Take care everyone and God-bless
